Introduction

TheMensGroup is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members. Our group is dedicated to social events and making friends within the LGBT Gay Men’s community. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for member behaviour as well as the consequences for unacceptable behaviour. It applies to all forms of communication and interaction, both electronic (such as social media, WhatsApp, email) and in-person events.

Respect for Everyone

All members are expected to show respect and courtesy to others in the group. Discrimination, harassment, and bullying are strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion.

Unacceptable Behaviour

  • Illegal activities

The Men's Group have zero tolerance to activities that are considered illegal. This includes but is not limited to talk about the acquiring or distribution of ilicit substances, discussion or distribution of taboo or extreme pornography and/or anything else that could be considered illegal or criminal in the UK legal jurisdiction. We understand that memes and jokes can sometimes touch on these subjects - we ask that everyone uses their better judgement and be aware that if someone thinks that you might be 'serious' about these subjects, then we might elect to remove your post/comment and take moderator action - this could range from warnings for minor infractions, to reporting to authorities if we feel there is a genuine safety concern.

  • Unwanted Romantic or Sexual Advances

This includes any unwelcome sexual comments or advances, as well as inappropriate personal comments disguised as jokes or flattery. Such behavior undermines the integrity of our environment and can cause discomfort or harm to the recipient.

  • Inappropriate or Unsolicited Content

Sharing sexually explicit content or inappropriate material in non-designated channels or mediums, such as our public WhatsApp chat room, is not allowed. The NSFW Channels do exist in discord, but it should be noted that these channels should still be used respectfully and not in a way that makes other users feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Note: we do not allow advertising of sexual services in public channels. Please keep such things to direct messages between consenting adults.

  • Disrespectful Language or Behaviour

Insults, derogatory comments, or personal attacks will not be tolerated. We understand that such things can seem like banter at the time - please consider how the person receiving such comments may feel. We encourage friendly interactions where possible. Sometimes it is safer to er on the side of caution, particularly when dealing with people you are not familiar with.

  • Disruption of Events

Intentionally disrupting meetings or events with inappropriate behaviour is unacceptable. It takes time and effort to organise events and many of the events are hosted or organised by volunteers. Please do not disrupt events in ways that can detract from the enjoyment of others.

  • Bullying & Harassment

Bullying & Harassment will not be tolerated in any of the online channels (discord etc) or WhatsApp chats we manage. This includes rumour spreading, gossiping and other forms of character assassination designed to tarnish peoples reputations (in and outside of The Men's Group forums). The Men's Group is a social group for people to attend events together, not for people to spread gossip about other members.

  • Sharing of Private information or sensitive content

We live in a day and age where sensitive/explicit images are often shared on platforms such as Grindr. It is very possible that these images could be kept and then redistributed. We encourage everyone to exercise good judgement when it comes to sharing of personal and private information. Anyone found exploiting or maliciously spreading another persons information may be removed from the group.

  • Advertising of services

The Men's Group allow the sharing and advertising of legitimate businesses, fundraising and charitable funds. We also allow advertising of employment opportunities and items for sale such as 'garage sale' or old items looking for new home etc.

The Men's Group do not allow the unauthorised advertising of gambling events (including but not limited to raffle type events). The exception to this rule might be where the proceeds of such an event are genuinely going to a charitable or non-profit organisation or purpose. The Men's Group will not allow its members to be exploited for the financial gain of any other users or members of our service.

  • Public arguments

The Men's Group value constructive feedback, however in order to prevent disruptive behaviour in online forums, we ask that feedback be conveyed in a respectful manner. In the event that a member has a complaint, we would ask that these be conveyed via direct message on discord or via our contact form and complaints and arguments are kept off public channels. Public arguments on discord are likely to be deleted.

  • Contentious Political Discussions

We discourge the discussion of politically contentous topics at our events or within our online platforms. Our rationale for this is explained HERE. Discussion on such topics may be discouraged and/or be deleted in order to maintain an inclusive and neutral space for all.

Consequences of Unacceptable Behaviour

Below demonstrates some typical results from code of conduct violations. More serious incidents may warrant involvement of authorities.

  • Warning

We will typically start with a verbal or written warning. We like to assume that members of the community are not malicious and sometimes violations may arise out of misunderstandings etc. In such cases we give gentle guidance to avoid making the same or similar .

  • Temporary Suspension

For more serious or repeated offence’s, a member may be temporarily suspended from the group and its activities. This may also include having their ability to engage with the group in online forums disabled for durations appropriate to the offense.

  • Permanent Removal

In cases of significant or repeated violations, a member may be permanently removed from the group. This will include removal from online forums and exclusion from invites for upcoming events.

  • Reporting to Authorities

If any action is illegal or threatens the safety or welbeing of our members, it may be reported to the relevant authorities.

Reporting

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behaviour, or have any other concerns, please report it to the committee as soon as possible. The committee will review and investigate all complaints, and respond in a way that it deems appropriate to the circumstances. The committee is committed to maintaining confidentiality to the extent possible during the investigation process.

It is important to note that the committee cannot act on rumour and innuendo, as such we will need complaints to be in written form.

To make a complaint - please visit our contact form and fill in the relevant details.
