In a remarkable display of community spirit and resilience, Paul 'Bloomeroid' Bloomer, a well-known queer content creator from North Belfast, is gearing up to host an ambitious 24-hour gaming marathon. Set to commence at 8 am on Friday, 18 July, the event seeks to raise vital funds for Samaritans, a charity that holds deep personal significance for him.
Paul will broadcast his marathon live across multiple platforms, including Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok, engaging with viewers through a diverse array of games, interactive chats, and open invitations for public participation in multiplayer activities. Every penny raised during this digital endeavour will go directly to Samaritans, via their official fundraising page.
"This fundraiser is incredibly personal to me. During one of the darkest periods of my life, a Samaritan was there to listen without judgment and helped me get through it. This stream is my way of giving something back so that support is there for the next person who needs it.”
Beyond his personal connection, Paul also emphasised the importance of supporting an organisation that aligns with the values of inclusion and acceptance. "As a proud queer man from North Belfast, it means a great deal to support an organisation that stands alongside LGBTQIA+ communities," Paul asserts, highlighting Samaritans’ presence at Pride events and its commitment to ensuring a safe space for all.
For over 70 years, Samaritans has been a beacon of hope for those in distress, offering a free, confidential, and non-judgmental listening service available around the clock. Their mission to alleviate emotional suffering and prevent suicide resonates deeply within communities across the UK and Ireland, including the LGBTQIA+ community Samaritans actively supports.
The charity’s engagement with LGBTQIA+ groups extends beyond participation in Pride events. Their comprehensive support network includes incorporating LGBTQ+ narratives into volunteer training and maintaining an internal LGBTQ+ staff and volunteer network.
