As Northern Ireland embraces the vibrant hues of Pride season, cities and towns across the region are gearing up for a series of events that celebrate diversity, love, and community within the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
Kicking off this colourful parade of festivities, Omagh recently concluded its annual Pride parade, setting the stage for similar celebrations to cascade through various locales. As we anticipate the wave of revelry, Ballymena stands poised to host Mid and East Antrim Pride. Taking place this Saturday, June 20, this event marks the second year of Pride celebrations in the town, under the theme 'Louder, Prouder, Stronger'.
"We want to show everyone that Ballymena is a place of acceptance and inclusion," said one of the event organisers.
Ballymena's pride-filled day begins with a morning event at The Braid Arts Centre, welcoming attendees of all ages for a gathering enriched by community stalls, entertainment, and opportunities for connection within the local LGBTQ+ community. The highlight, however, is the Pride Parade, scheduled to course through Ballymena’s central streets, promising what organisers hail as the largest Pride procession the borough has seen. Festivities extend into the night with an exuberant After Party at The Front Page Bar, featuring live entertainment and DJs.
Looking ahead, Fermanagh Pride is set to return on July 18 in Enniskillen, bringing a fresh wave of celebration centred around Enniskillen Castle.
"It's not just about celebrating; it's about acknowledging our struggle and showing that we still resist discrimination," shared Eve Belle, an Irish artist headlining the event.
The event will feature musical performances alongside food stalls and fun activities for families.
Belfast Pride, a pivotal event on Northern Ireland's LGBTQIA+ calendar, promises to be grander than ever as it marks its 35th anniversary from July 17 to July 26. This 10-day festival boasts over 150 events culminating in the hallmark Pride Parade on July 25. Revolución de Cuba in Belfast will amplify the celebrations with a special performance by pop star Una Healy, ensuring a memorable weekend of music and community spirit. Safety measures will be observed to ensure a safe celebration for everyone, aligning with health guidelines.
Further north, Causeway Pride will light up Portrush on August 1 with its coastal parade, drawing participants and supporters alike. The event will feature live music, including performances by the Cookstown Samba Band, and a series of family-friendly activities post-parade.
In the northwest, Derry prepares for the Foyle Pride Festival running from August 19 to August 29. Celebrating its 33rd year, the theme 'Existence is Resistance' captures the spirit of resilience and solidarity, with the main parade on August 29 promising a powerful expression of community support.
Finally, Newry's Pride celebrations will unfold on August 22 with a vibrant parade and an outdoor concert enriching the city’s heart, extending a warm embrace of celebration and inclusivity.
Throughout the season, these events encapsulate the essence of Pride—a protest, a celebration, and a testament to the ongoing struggle for equality. As Northern Ireland joins hands to honour the diversity of its communities, Pride season offers an inspiring platform to champion love, acceptance, and unity.
