Our meetup with the Lord Mayor in City Hall

A big thank you goes out to Andy for arranging the reception with the Lord Mayor and of course to the Lord Mayor himself for hosting us.

It was a very interesting evening which gave us an opportunity to emphasise the importance of enabling people to make friendships within the LGBT community.

We saw quite a few new faces that night and we hope to see them all again at future events.

Setup and Creation of our WhatsApp community

Following feedback from the community, we started looking at setting up a WhatsApp community.

We encourage people to try and check our Discord for the latest events, but we will endeavour to share the event listings with those on WhatsApp.

Unfortunately WhatsApp does not offer much control over privacy settings - so it is important to note that joining the WhatsApp community will share your phone number with the community.

Amsterdam Weekend

There was much feedback and input which suggested that members were interested in organising a Weekend trip away.

It was proving difficult to get consensus on when people wanted to go on this weekend trip and where to.. so in true democratic fashion... we arranged a vote!

Following a week of polling - the results were as follows

• First place winner was Amsterdam as a destination
• Second place was Gran Canaria
• Third place was London

Polling results showed that August 2025 was the most desired month to go. Looking in our calendar we saw that we have a Bank Holiday weekend, getting Monday 25th August as a long weekend.

The proposed plan is for everyone to book flights to Amsterdam on Friday 22nd August (There are flights around 6pm, so we have the full weekend in Amsterdam) and then return flights on the Monday.

At the time of polling - flight costs were around £167 for return flights

Everyone in the community comes from different backgrounds and different means, so accommodation is really going to be for individuals to organise. Its very possible that members may want to share to reduce costs... or if you are like me and like having a room to yourself, you might not want to do that.

Coffee Night

Café Nero have closed a few nights quite early, giving us only an hour of coffee and chat time at our coffee nights.

This is obviously a little naff, as it means our nights got cut short. So we are looking at new venues such as Greggs around City Hall as a venue.

We are always on the look out for appropriate venues, ideally a non-alcohol venue for our sober members to enjoy a casual chat with each-other. Finding one that is open late has been a challenge. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, please let us know.
